Star Wars Battlefront Beta and Companion App announced

EA today announced their much anticipated Star Wars: Battlefront Beta and companion app. The beta will be available early October for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC and the companion app is due in Novmeber for iOS and Android.

The beta will be a technical test featuring “Walker Assault on Hoth”, a 40-player multiplayer battle featuring Rebels and the Empire. Walker Assault will also give you the chance to play as two of the most iconic characters in the Star Wars universe: Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. The Beta will also feature a survival mission on Tatooine, where you and a Rebel friend must fight back waves of Imperial forces. In addition to this the Beta will feature a brand-new mode – Drop Zone. Howver they’ve not shared any details yet and will reveal more over the next few weeks.

Also revealed was the Star Wars Battlefront Companion experience. Available during the Beta at the official website, the Star Wars Battlefront Companion experience features the strategic card game Base Command, and lets you earn in-game Credits that unlock Star Cards, weapons, and more in Star Wars Battlefront. In addition to Base Command, the Companion also lets Rebels and Imperials alike check game stats and progression, customize load-outs and appearance, connect with friends, and get notified when they’re playing Star Wars Battlefront – as well as gather intel on their stats and progression so you can see how you match up!

The Star Wars Battlefront Companion will be available on web and in the Apple App Store™ and Google Play™ store prior to the release of Star Wars Battlefront on November 17.

There are two things I love in life... playing games and my family. I work three jobs; one to pay the bills, another as a video game designer at C117 Games, and, of course, here - at Another Dungeon. I own almost every console since the Atari 7800 and am proud of my extensive collection of games. I'm more of a single or coop player but I do dabble in multiplayer on the odd occasion. Tabletop wise I prefer strategic games like Five Tribes or Small World. If you want to have a game or just chat feel free to add me, PM me or email me.
  • I’m finding this trend towards having a companion app and card trading game for every single game available a little concerning… Games. Everywhere. All the time.

I don’t think it’s THAT overbearing. Lol. Only a few titles have apps and even fewer have card games. I like it though. Gives me something to do outside the game and keeps me thinking about it.

      • Sure, that’s exactly what the developers are aiming for. Whilst you’re not able to play it at home, play this card game so you can still progress further in the game whilst you’re not playing the game. GTAV did it with their apps and it was… ok? I don’t know, maybe I’m getting paranoid but I liked it when my games didn’t follow me everywhere.

Well they don’t really “follow” you everywhere as the app download is neither mandatory or required.
