Star Wars Battlefront, What we know so far

Unless you’ve been living in a galaxy far, far away, you would have seen the first trailer for Star Wars Battlefront last week and now that all the hype has settled down lets look at what we found out about this game from the trailer and commentary during its presentation at the Anaheim Star Wars Celebration.

Firstly the trailer looks amazing and shows a battle raging on what appears to be the forest moon of Endor between the Rebels and the Empire, and while the footage is content that was created by the game engine (Frostbite 3) and not actual in game footage, it is still none the less impressive, but the real insights into the game came from the team at DICE during their presentation. They stated how they shared a passion for this project and the Star Wars franchise, they then stated that they wanted to make the game that the players deserved. To assist them with staying true to this vision they visited the locations used for filming the movies to make sure the environments would be correct and were giving unprecedented access to the Star Wars archives to see the original models, props and other important piece of memorabilia from the movies to ensure that everything would be as true to the movies as possible.

The release date was announced as November 19th and at this stage is appears that the game will only be coming to the PS4, Xbox One and PC, so looks like last gen system owners will be missing out at this stage. They also advised that hero characters such as Vader and Fett would be playable, that you would be able to select between playing in 3rd or 1st person and also shared some information about the first DLC for the game called the Battle of Jakku, which would be available on December 8th (or a week earlier to those that pre-order that game) and would create a link between Force Awakens and Battlefront.

Battle of Jakku

So far there has been no official word about any special editions or console variants for the collectors out there but we can only hope.

  • Beyond excited for this. I’ve been out of multiplayer games for a while, and I think that this game will be the one to get me back in. The visuals look great, so I’m really pleased it’s not hampered by having to cater to previous gen consoles too.
