Toe Jam & Earl: Back in the Groove Kickstarter is live

Toe Jam & Earl: Back in the Groove Kickstarter is live

Toe Jam & Earl was a fantastic, original and hilarious co-op adventure game brought out for the Sega Megadrive in the early 1990s. It holds a special place in my memory for a number of reasons. Combining blatantly stupid humor with 90s pop culture references, ingenious level design and a completely original concept it was a must purchase for any owner of the system.

And guess what? A Kickstarter’s been launched for a sequel! So what’s this all about? How about I just be lazy and quote…

My name is Greg Johnson, and I am one of the two original creators and owners of the Toejam and Earl games (just to be clear, Sega doesn’t own it). I, along with some bright and talented friends, are finally going to make that ultimate Toejam and Earl sequel that the fans have been asking for all these years.

Will it be like game one or game two, you ask?  Well… (holding breath)… mainly like game one.  We plan to go old school with this one. Fixed isometric camera, 2D sprites, simple controls, and an emphasis on coop play. It will also pull in some of the more beloved elements from game two, AND we have a list of exciting new gameplay elements planned as well.

Oh right, I almost forgot… and we’ll have funky music, and more funky music, and… then we’ll add in more funky music.

Rather than repeating everything on the site I’ll share this link to the Kickstarter instead and strongly encourage anyone interested to pledge. Toe Jam & Earl was a fantastic, unique experience that’s not been replicated to date and a sequel is a glorious idea! Not that I’m biased… not at all!

There are two things I love in life... playing games and my family. I work three jobs; one to pay the bills, another as a video game designer at C117 Games, and, of course, here - at Another Dungeon. I own almost every console since the Atari 7800 and am proud of my extensive collection of games. I'm more of a single or coop player but I do dabble in multiplayer on the odd occasion. Tabletop wise I prefer strategic games like Five Tribes or Small World. If you want to have a game or just chat feel free to add me, PM me or email me.
